Environmental and Health Engineering Research Center

"Environmental and Health Engineering Research Center" is based on the major discipline of resources and environment and Applied Chemistry Specialty of Henan University, and the resources of environment and Planning Institute, chemistry and chemical-engineering college and medical school are integrated to set up the center. The environment and Planning Institute, which involved in the construction, is the most powerful unit in the field of the resource and environment of Henan province. It not only has the ecological and Health Engineering Laboratory funded by the Ministry of finance, but also is the first college in our province for the complete sequence of doctoral points and post-doctoral research flow stations, which has the research object of resources and environment. It is at the top of the National Collage of the same class. The College of chemistry and chemical engineering is a college of science and engineering, in which the Applied Chemistry is the specialty of the Ministry of education. It has the right to grant both the PhD degree and the master's degree in the first class of chemistry, and a number of master's points of environmental science, chemical engineering, etc. The Institute's paper pollution control and Resources Research Institute and related laboratories have formed their own characteristics in the fields of papermaking black liquor resources, environmental protection and antibacterial ceramics, natural resources development and so on. The medical school has a strong spirit of innovation, it now has the Provincial Key Laboratory - the natural medicine and immune engineering laboratory, and the Key Laboratory of the Henan Provincial Health Department - the cell and molecular immunology laboratory.

It has formed a strong scientific research team in the front-line work of teaching and research. The center has formed 2 main research directions. There are 34 researchers in the project center, including 1 academicians of the American Academy of Sciences, 6 doctoral tutors, 18 professors, 7 outstanding academic and technical leaders in Henan, 3 outstanding young backbone teachers in universities in Henan Province, 1 Yellow River scholar, 2 school special professors, and 16 associate professors, 28 of whom are doctorates. It has formed a scientific research team with good cooperation spirit and echelon structure, reasonable age structure, competent personnel, reasonable knowledge structure and a wide scope of learning. In recent years, Henan University has established a green channel for high-level talents, which can simplify examination and approval procedures for them. Special affairs can be finished within 7 working days. Once the talents are introduced, their employment contracts and implement contract management are signed, and their employment posts, job requirements and welfare benefits are fulfilled. At present, the engineering center has introduced 1 Yellow River scholars, two distinguished professors and 10 outstanding doctoral graduates, who are all joined the lab.

1. Development and popularization of the technology of industrial waste water resource utilization

The main task is the research and development of harmless Sesbania gum and sanitary ceramics, which are easy to degradation and have high application value. Especially the technology of papermaking black liquor resource utilization, which has conquered the problem of "the complete resource of paper making black liquor", under the support of the Provincial Education Hall and the Department of science and technology, achieved the zero emission of the pollution, and obtained higher economic benefits, simultaneously. The technology has been patented by many countries. The international patent application review report issued by the World Intellectual Property Office believes that the technology is novel, creative and industrial practical, it belongs to an international initiative achievement.

2. The research on promoting the cancer mechanism of nitrite pollution and the technology of producing healthy drinking water without nitrite

The center, considering the environmental characteristics of Henan Province, and the impact of environmental pollution on the health of the people, selects Zhoukou, a seriously polluted city in the Huaihe River Basin and Linzhou, the high incidence area of the national food tube cancer area, as the research areas. It focus on the explore of the relationship between nitrite and human cancer in drinking water and the mechanism of nitrite promoting cancer to develop, popularize and apply effective sewage treatment and purification technology in order to reform the sewage treatment technology and ensure the health of the population. Not only has it integrated the research strength of environment, medicine and resources, but is obviously the few cross-field centers in the engineering centers of our province and even the whole country. We have successfully developed electrochemical and integrated waterway technologies for sewage treating, healthy drinking water production and water saving irrigation technology, and have obtained many invention patents.
