About the speaker: Shichang Kang, vice President of research, Northwest Institute of Ecology, Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of state Key Laboratory of Cryosphere Science. He was the director of Namco Multi-layer observation and Research Station of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2012, he was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, and in 2016, he was selected as the leading talent of the "ten Thousand Talents Plan" of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. He has hosted and participated in more than 40 key and general projects of the National Foundation of China, "973" projects, pioneering special projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and international cooperation projects. He has organized or participated in wild fields at very high altitudes in the South and Arctic regions and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau more than 40 scientific expeditions. He has won the Second Prize of National Natural Science, the first prize of Natural Science of Gansu Province, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Youth Science and Technology Award, and the University-level Outstanding Graduate Courses Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Overview: Engaged in cryosphere science research, focusing on the three polar regions (Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Arctic and Antarctic),carrying out research on the rapid change process of cryosphere and its response to climate warming, cryosphere environmental change and human activity record, and the interaction mechanism between cryosphere and other circles. It is expounded that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is warming rapidly, the response of extremely high altitude areas to global warming is more sensitive, and the glacier retreat is accelerating recently, using the ice core records of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to reconstruct the history of human emissions of air pollutants over the past several hundred years,it reveals the profound impact of human activities in Asia on the environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau since the mid-20th century. A systematic collaborative observation and study of the atmosphere and cryosphere in the high mountains of Asia revealed the process and path of transboundary transport of pollutants from South Asia to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and analyzed the role and mechanism of light-absorbing impurities such as black carbon in the rapid change of cryosphere. He has published more than 700 papers (including 470 SCl papers) ,which has been cited more than 18,000 times (GoogleScholar, h-index is 68) (SC1 has cited >.1 million times).
We warmly welcome all interested teachers and students to participate in it!
