1、 The development goal and requirement of geography
(1) the goal
This major aims to cultivate professional students,immerging oneself in the research and teaching of geography science,who are adapted to the need of social construction ;who is in the full development of morality,intellect,physic and beauty and who have the spirit of innovation and the ability to practice.By studying and mastering the basic theory,basic knowledge and basic method,students can have solid foundation ,complete professional knowledge and professional skills.Thus,they can carry out the geographical teaching and research in higher and secondary schools.Meanwhile,they can work in relative departments,such as project department, management department ,etc.
(2) the requirement
Mainly to learn the basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills, to accept the train of scientific way of thinking and scientific experiments in geographically fundamental theory, to have the education theory course and to experience practice segment in order to form good science and teacher quality, to gain ability to engage in geography teaching, geography teaching research, geography science research, geography application, and so on.
The concrete requirements are:
①You are trained well of thinking and experiments of geography science. You should master relevant subjects’ basic knowledge, method and skill. You should have the humanity and scientific quality. You must master totally the modern geography science’ basic theory, knowledge and skill.
②You should master the rule of education and apply pedagogic and psychological theories to practice preliminarily. You must possess teacher’s quality and have the ability to work in geography.
③You should know the recent development of geography science and the recent research of geography education. You’d better have the ability to study on your own and you can obtain the first-hand data and geographic information by the way of outdoor investigation, remote sensing image interpretation and laboratory operation. You also need the ability to combine your professional knowledge with the social reality and other subjects’ knowledge.
④You must have a good master of expression, including painting, sketching, tabulating, taking photographs, etc. At least, you can master a kind of foreign language in order to communicate, exchange ideas and cooperate with other countries according to geographical research and application in the view of globalization.
⑤You should have the ability to take advantage of modern educational technology for implementing teaching. You should master computeracy and skill of geo-information system, which you can apply to relative research.
2、Educational System and Degree
(1)Flexible Educational System :the basic educational system is 4 years, but students are allowed to finish their study in 3-7 years.
(2)Graduates who are fit in with Academic Degree Regulation is conferred Bachelor of Science degree.
3、Requirement of graduation
The total credits is 167,including 93 credits of compulsory course(38 credits of public course,35 credits of major course and 29 credits of major course);44 credits of optional course(36 credits of major selective course and 8 credits of public selective course);30 credits of practical segment(includes 7 credits of“special part ”)
