Two、Professional Introduction
Cartography and Geographic Information System (GIS) is an important branch of geography.It is a new, cross-cutting and applied discipline that emerged in the context of the age of information technology. The field includes theory, technology, management and application issues related to geographical information. This subject takes the elements of the Earth system and their interaction processes as research objects, and studies technologies, such as acquisition, management, sharing, analysis, visualization, and service of geographic information, and is widely used in government, public utilities, business, and personal services. Involving key economic and social issues such as nature, resources, environment, cities, and population, with extremely high practical value. Its scientific theories and geography, computer science and mathematics are also closely related to surveying , mapping, remote sensing and earth sciences.
Our school's cartography and GIS is one of the earliest established and most internationally profession.
In the areas of theoretical research, technology development, application promotion, etc, there are landmark results, forming the advantages and characteristics of this area.
(1) Research on virtual geographical environment, including data model, modeling, visualization and application development of complex geographical environment;
(2) Multi-source, multi-scale geographic data collection, integration, service and network sharing;
(3) Spatial analysis and geo-modeling studies, including regional system models, hydrological models, spatial optimization models, and application development;
(4) Geographic information system analysis, design, development and application research in resources, environment, industry and regional areas;
(5) Remote sensing technology and application of resources and environment, including remote sensing mechanism, remote sensing information processing of resources and environment, remote sensing monitoring of ecological environment, monitoring of agricultural crops and estimation of agricultural production.
Three、Training Goals and Basic Requirements
To cultivate high-level talents with Marxism-Leninist world outlook and methodology, with correct thinking, love of science, and hard work, comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, and fitness. The graduates of this profession should have high independent ability to engage in scientific research work, understand the international frontier research and the latest research trends in cartography and geographic information systems. They should have a solid theoretical basis for geographic information systems, remote sensing, satellite positioning systems, cartography and related technologies, and master the theoretical and technological frontiers of the discipline. They should read foreign materials fluently and apply foreign language for academic exchange. Degree earners should have work in cartography and geographic information systems and their related frontier fields and related professional teaching, scientific research, or development and management of large-scale GIS application projects. They also should have good health, with a healthy body and good psychological qualities.
Four、Years of Study
The years of education is 2-3. Complete course studies and gain enough credits during the first school year, then after mid-term assessment, transfer to scientific research and write master's degree dissertation. Graduates should graduate on time. For special reasons, students must extend their years of study (within a maximum of five years), they must apply for the program, and receive the approval of instructor and school . For graduates who complete the training program in advance, their dissertation meets the requirements of the application for reply, after a prescribed approval process, you can answer, graduate, and apply for a degree in advance.

Seven、 The credit requirements for academic degrees
The credits of graduate students are divided into two parts: curriculum credit and thesis credit. Curriculum credits are credits obtained by postgraduates according to their professional curriculum, through classroom learning and course examination. including credits of all public compulsory courses、professional basic courses、 professional elective courses and supplementary courses, as well as credits of academic activities and practical credits;Thesis credits are credits obtained from various links in the process of postgraduate training, including opening report, mid-term examination, preliminary defense and dissertation。Graduate course assessment is divided into examination and check. All compulsory courses are examination courses, and the assessment method is written examination (including closed and open books). The elective course is to examine the courses, and the method of examination can be written in the form of written examination, oral examination or report (including summary, overview, experience, etc.), course papers and other forms of degree course examination results greater than or equal to 70 points (100 points) can obtain credits, other courses greater than or equal to 60 points can obtain credits. The retraining must be carried out according to the teaching plan of the teaching plan with the next level of teaching, and the results of the other examination are not valid, if the actual situation of the teaching is changed, except for the absence of the corresponding courses at the next level.
According to the requirements of graduate school, the graduate students of cartography and geographic information system are required to complete all courses before graduation, and they can graduate only after passing all examinations and completing 50 credits.
Eight、 the ways and methods of training
On the basis of curriculum teaching, supervisor and supervisor’s group can carry out the guidance of dynamic frontier, thematic problems and research methods in this subject, strengthen the graduate student research innovation consciousness, promote scientific research creativity of graduate students and to encourage graduate students achieve a high level of scientific research. The measures are as follows:
(1)The supervisor is responsible for the overall management with the supervisor’s group and the laboratory, and adopt systematic theory study and scientific research methods.
(2)The learning of basic and specialized courses shall be carried out under the guidance and supervision of the supervisor, giving full play to the personal ability of the graduate students and the guiding role of the supervisor. Adopt heuristic and research-based teaching methods to cultivate the self-learning ability, independent working ability and pioneering spirit of research.
(3) The graduate student shall, under the arrangement and guidance of the supervisor, investigating and consulting the relevant scientific and technological literature.
(4) Graduate students should take part in academic seminars, academic reports, discussion classes and other academic activities in this subject and related disciplines, broaden their thinking and strive to improve their scientific research quality and ability.
(5) Under the guidance of the supervisor, postgraduates shall participate in the research on relevant subjects in the laboratory. The scientific research pays attention to the cultivation and improvement of experimental skills and comprehensive and independent problem-solving ability.
(6) To strengthen the leadership and life management of the political and ideological work of the graduate students, the supervisor should teach both teaching and education; the graduate students must actively participate in political learning and public welfare activities, and conscientiously carry out physical exercise.
Academic dissertation
Graduate thesis is conducted under the guidance and arrangement of supervisors. All work must be conducted in accordance with the unified arrangement of supervisor、supervisor’s group and laboratories.
Under the guidance of the supervisor, the graduate student shall propose the thesis topic, and submit the opening report at the end of the third semester, which shall be discussed and reviewed by the laboratory. The thesis must be completed independently by the graduate student under the guidance of the tutor. The lab must check the progress of the paper at least once a semester. The dissertation should include a certain amount of scientific literature, workload, scientific research and corresponding results.
If a graduate student fails to complete his thesis within the prescribed time, he may extend the duration of the thesis appropriately after his application, the consent of his supervisor and the approval of the school.
Topic selection: Based on academic and academic research. It should belong to basic research or applied innovative research based on certain theoretical research. The subject of the study should have new insights.
Thesis form: normative dissertation, see the "basic requirements and provisional rules of writing format of graduate dissertation of Hean University".
Quality of the paper: solid basic theory and systematic expertise on the problems involved; Good command of the research methods and skills of this research project; the theory, data, experiment and calculation of the paper are scientific, accurate and reliable. New insights into the subject under study; In theory or in practice, the thesis has certain significance to social and economic construction. The number of words of master's thesis should be more than 30,000.
Under the guidance of the supervisor, the thesis must be completed independently by myself, and the process of the work of the paper should be clearly defined, such as the question, review and defense. In the process of completion of the thesis, academic ethics and academic standards are scrupulously abused, and there is no fraudulent fraud, and self responsibility.
Nine、Others
Graduate students shall complete all credits within the prescribed time limit, pass dissertation defense, meet the graduation qualification, and be allowed to graduate.After examination and approval by the sub-committee of degree assessment of The College of Environment and Planning of Henan University, the degree assessment committee of Henan University shall be submitted to the degree assessment committee for discussion and approval before conferring the degree.The degree awarding is carried out in accordance with 《The Rules for the Degree Awarding of Henan University 》and the relevant documents of academic degree management.
